St Cuthbert’s Pre-school provides high quality care and education for young children between the ages of two and five years and we are open every day during school term time.
The Pre-school is for children aged two to five years and, through the broad and balanced curriculum we provide, develops their knowledge and independence and prepares them for starting school.
The Pre-school is set in St Cuthbert’s Church Hall in the village of Churchtown where we have access to a large play room with a wide variety of equipment and interesting activities. We also have a spacious outside play area which the children access daily.
We organise our sessions so that the children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged to take part in, outdoor child-chosen activities as well as physical development play with bikes, scooters etc and adult-led activities e.g. obstacle course. We also go on regular outings within the local community.
We are a registered charity (1085385) which is governed by a Trustee Committee. The Chair of Trustees is Mr Steve Evans. The Pre-school Manager is Mrs Margaret Wignall who has over 40 years experience and is directly involved in the care, development and education of the children on a daily basis.
